Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser - Friday 24th February 1922.

The notice of the passing away of Mr Fleming will recall to the minds of many visitors to the Scaur in the old days many memories. He was for many years tenant of Heston Island, and was there when the late Mr Maxwell of Munches unveiled the lighthouse, which Mr Fleming attended to during his stay on the island.

The writer can remember a gentleman from the Argentine who stayed with the Fleming family for many years. He took a great interest in the island, and was adept at woodcarving. He came to the mainland and bought a fine large trunk of a tree which he intended to carve a statue of Wallace to be placed on the summit of Heston. Alas, the artist took ill and died.

The writer has been interested to find that Mr & Mrs Fleming were well known in Laurieston where they took up house after their marriage, afterwards removing to Edgarton where the husband acted as a shepherd. Since Mrs Fleming's death some years ago, he has with him his daughter, the widow of Captain William Sharp, a native of the Scaur. For some years he has occupied much time in the making of excellent baskets of various kinds for which he found a ready sale.
