Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser - Friday 27 Jan 1922.
We regret to record the death of Mr James Thomson, gamekeeper at Southwick, which took place at his home, Knockenhooly, on Tuesday morning. He was born at New Abbey about 68 years ago. After a short time spent as a farm labourer he went to Cavens in 1878 where he acted as under-keeper to the late Mr R A Oswald for 9 years. He then went to Southwick as head-keeper, and had remained there ever since - a long period of nearly 35 years.
He is survived by a widow and large family.
