Youthful frolicsomeness had a tragic sequel at Palnackie on Wednesday, the victim being Kenneth Greeway, aged seven years, son of Captain Allen Greenway, Urr Bank, Palnackie, and skipper of the "North Barrule." George Muir, employed by Messrs A Wilson & Sons, coal agents, Dalbeattie, visited the village with a delivery of coals, and on his departure on the return journey a number of children asked for a ride on the motor lorry as far a Gardenburn, about a quarter of a mile from the village.
On approaching Gardenburn, the lorry slowed down with a view to drawing up, and three of the children jumped off. The unfortunate boy did not get clear and his head was caught by the rear wheel. Injuries were severe and the boy died in about half an hour.
