On 9th September 1922 a South African newspaper reported the death of Mr Robert McMorrin, proprietor of the Court Bar, Germison, the day before.

The deceased was 48 years of age. 'Mac' as he was popularly known, came to South Africa during the Boer War and served through the campaign with the Prince of Wales' Horse. He was born at Castle Douglas, where his parents have survived him.

At the conclusion of the war he remained in Capetown for a while and then to Johannesburg, where he was employed at the New Club and other similar institutions. About 10 years ago he came to Germiston as manager for Ohlsson's of the Court Bar. He subsequently assumed proprietorship of the business.

Mr McMorrin was the third son of Mr & Mrs Robert McMorrin, Cotton Street, Castle Douglas.
