The death occurred at Seagate,Carsluith, on Sunday morning of Mr James Kelly, retired farmer, and a well known figure in the Stewartry. Deceased, who was in his 95th year, was born at Daltamie in the parish of Minnigaff, where his father, the late Mr Peter Kelly, was tenant. When an infant his family moved to Arkland in the parish of Anwoth, which farm they occupied for nearly 80 years.
Mr Kelly for a long period of his life tenanted the farm of Goatend, close to Gatehouse, and he was a well known character in the district where he was held in high esteem and very much respected. Deceased was well versed in the folk-lore of the district and possessed of a good memory he was always ready to give particulars, as far as he knew, regarding incidents of bygone days, particularly pertaining to the parish of Anwoth.
"Goatie" as he was familiarly called, was the last survivor of a typical old Galloway family.
