By the death of Mr John Kerr, Laggan, last week, Colvend lost one of its most respected agriculturalists. Mr Kerr took up residence in Colvend in 1878, so that he has farmed where he died for forty-four years. He was the oldest tenant on the Cavens Estate.

Before this he farmed with his father at High Lynn, Dalry. In 1878 he married Annabella Lamont, daughter of the late Mr Lamont, Mersehead, Kirkbean, and had a family of four, three daughters and one son, all of whom survive, with their mother, to mourn his loss.

His son is Mr R Kerr, farmer, Glensone, Southwick. The funeral took place to Colvend, the principle mourners were his son, Mr James & John Anderson, grandsons, Mr James Lamont, Ingleston, Irongray, brother-in-law, four nephews and two sons-in-law.
