Mr Alexander McDonald, blacksmith, Catherine Street, Gatehouse, died on Tuesday afternoon in his 94th year. He was the oldest male inhabitant of the community, a native of the burgh, and succeeded to his father's business in Digby Street.
His grandfather belonged to Dunkeld, and was one of the Highlanders who marched south with Prince Charlie into England.
