The death took place suddenly on Tuesday evening of Mr Robert Douglas, St Ninian's. Mr Douglas, who was 70 years of age, was the fourth son of the late Mr Alexander Douglas, farmer, Midkelton, Castle Douglas, had his own business in London which was highly successful.

He retired some years ago and, after a tour round the world, settled in Lockerbie for 2 or 3 years before coming to Castle Douglas in May of last year.

He leaves a widow, and a son and daughter, both of whom are in British Columbia. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, while his younger son, Lieut. William M Douglas, was killed in France with the King's Own Scottish Borderers, after having been three times severely wounded.
