Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser, Friday 15th January 1926, (extract).

Information was received at Kirkcudbright of the death of Mr John Milligan, retired grocer and baker, which took place somewhat suddenly on Sunday morning at the home of his Daughter, Mrs William Cruickshank, Granary House, Whitehaven.

Mr Milligan belonged to a well know Dumfries family, being the eldest son of the late Samuel Milligan, merchant, whose business premises were in the High Street near the Burns Monument. After serving his apprenticeship with his father, and gaining experience elsewhere, he came to Kirkcudbright in the middle 70's and took over the business, now part of the Royal Hotel, in succession to his brother, Mr A R Milligan, Fairfield. He afterwards went into the bakery business and retired to his daughter's in 1910.

Mr Milligan was 84 years of age and is survived by his daughter, and a son who is in Canada. His funeral took place on Wednesday when he was buried at St Cuthbert's Churchyard, Kirkcudbright.
